Amid the onslaught of new products and features at Apple's WorldWide Developer Conference this week, a mobile-minded healthcare executive will want to keep an eye on developments around HealthKit software and the Apple Watch.

New features for the company's consumer-facing HealthKit platform include metrics for tracking UV exposure, time spent sitting down, reproductive health and hydration levels.

The reproductive health function – essentially the ability to track a woman’s monthly cycle – has already drawn strong praise from the The Verge.

Apple also released watchOS 2, an update that brings support for more apps to the Apple Watch. It also enables users to integrate data from third-party work apps into Apple Activity.

watchOS2 is slated to become available this fall, and Apple offiicials have said they will grant developers access to a number of the phone’s functions, including HealthKit and a streaming heart rate data feature.

As expected, Apple unwrapped iOS 9 and a raft of new functionalities, including improvements to Siri, a News app, the incorporation of public transportation into its mapping software and a trackpad for the iPad.
