Walgreens is expanding its Virtual Healthcare platform with the launch of a new digital health offering, Walgreens Weight Management, which connects individuals with licensed doctors and nurse practitioners to obtain weight-loss medication.
Through the Weight Management offering, patients have an online video visit with a clinician, who evaluates their weight-loss needs and prescribes FDA-approved GLP-1s. The patient can then access on-demand follow-up visits when medication adjustments or side-effect management is needed.
Patients will also have access to Novo Nordisk's GLP-1 Wegovy 1.5-mg or 4-mg tablet through Walgreens' Rx Savings Finder at a starting price of $149 per month or the pharma giant's Wegovy 0.25-mg and 0.5-mg injectable for $199 per month.
Visits are $49 each, and no monthly subscription service is required.
The retail giant says the new program, which is available in most U.S. states, is intended to help overweight and obese adults aged 18 to 64 who plan to self-pay for GLP-1 medication.
"Expanding our virtual healthcare platform to include weight management is part of our ongoing commitment to listening to patients and the services they want from their local pharmacy," Rick Gates, chief pharmacy officer at Walgreens, said in a statement.
"By combining trusted clinical expertise with the reach of our digital and pharmacy network, we're helping eligible patients take meaningful steps toward better health, on their own terms."
THE LARGER TREND
A report by RAND, published in 2025, showed that nearly 12% of U.S. adults reported having taken a GLP-1 at some point, with an additional 14% stating they are interested in taking the drug.
The report highlights that the biggest users of GLP-1s were adults ages 50 to 64, with women in the age group having particularly elevated uptake.
Women were twice as likely as men to have used a GLP-1 among adults aged 30 to 49, while usage rates among adults 65 and older were relatively similar.
Numerous digital health companies offer GLP-1s through their platform, including DarioHealth, Noom, knownwell, GoodRx and Wheel.
